Description:

The average length of an Atlantic Salmon is 27 to 30 inches long and about 8 to 13 pounds after two years. It has a long thin body. It also has a large mouth and large scales. Atlantic Salmon have silver skin and blue-green “X” looking spots all over its head and body.

Habitat:

When in freshwater Atlantic Salmon like to live in gravel, cobbles and boulders and
where the water is clean, unpolluted and has lots of oxygen.

Predators and Pray:

Atlantic Salmon eat caddisflies, blackflies, mayflies, and stoneflies but also are know for eating small fish and even other salmon eggs. Sharks wait at the mouths of rivers and catch Atlantic Salmon. Killer Whales, Sea Lions, and others share to passion of hunting and eating Atlantic Salmon.

What Helps Atlantic Salmon Survive?: Atlantic Salmon have gills to allow them the breath under water and have strong fins on the tail and back to help them swim (specifically up river to their spawning point).
