Here are the steps for creating, saving, and linking your organism:


Step A: Getting ready to start your wikipage.

1. Go through and check out the wikispace.
2. Pay close attention to the "Project Requirements" and "Organism Sample Page" .
3. Ask the librarians assistance in using "EASYBIB" to cite your sources.
4. Print out a copy of the "Scoring Guide" from the "Student Resources" page. Be sure to check this frequently throughout the project.

Step B: Joining our "What Lives in the LCB?" Wikispace.

1. Go to tinyurl.com/lcorganisms
2. Click "Join" in the top right corner.
3. Enter: user name, password, and your BSD email (Make sure your teacher can identify you from your user name!)
4. Click "Join". Do not choose to make a new wiki!
5. Click "Request Membership"
6. Wait for teacher to approve membership

Step C: Creating a Wikipage for your organism.

1. Go to tinyurl.com/lcorganisms
2. Click the small box in the upper right corner that looks like a "T"-chart.
3. In the menu on the left, click on the "Plus" sign next to "Pages and Files"
4. Use the following method for naming your wikipage:
  • include the number of your science core period first.
  • include the first two initials of your first and last name following the core period.
  • include a hyphen followed by the common name of your organism.
    • i.e. F2 - bi ny - Cormorant organism for Bill Nye in core 2
    • i.e. F3 - ba ob - Yellow Perch organism for Barack Obama in core 3
    • i.e. F2 - bo jo - Zebra Mussel organism for Bonnie Johnson-Aten in core 2
5. Choose "organism template" in the "use a template" box.
6. Click on "Create".
7. Great! You have just created your organism's wikipage

Step E: Linking your organism to your new Wiki page.

1. Go to tinyurl.com/lcorganisms
2. Click the tab for your organism's class (amphibians, aves, fish, mammals, or reptiles).
3. Find your organism's name in the table and highlight it.
4. Click on the link tool from the toolbar at the top of the page.
5. Click the down arrow in the "Page Name" box and select the page you created.
6. Click "Add Link".

Step F: Submitting your finished project.

1. With the "Scoring Guide" in hand, carefully look over your wikipage.
2. Delete the instructions that came with each section of the organism template.
3. Compare your page to the "Cormorant" sample page.
4. In pencil, self-score your wikipage by circling the score you think you deserve for each category.
5. Write the common name of your organism on the top of the page.
6. Make sure your name is on it and submit to your teacher.
