Students will select an organism from an approved list, or may identify an organism on their own that can be found within the Lake Champlain Basin. If selecting an organism on their own, student(s) must seek prior approval from the teacher.

Each student will be responsible for adding and editing a page for their organism on the EMS wikispace: "lakechamplainorganisms“.

Student pages shall include the following information:

  • Common and scientific name (Genus and species) for your organism.
  • Classification of your organism by:
    • Kingdom
    • Phylum
    • Class
    • Order
    • Family
    • Genus
    • Species

  • Picture of your organism in its natural habitat (video and audio clips?)
    • Habitat (where your organism can be found in or around the lake)
    • Prey (what your organism eats)
    • Predators (what eats your organism)
    • Native or invasive (if invasive, where and how did it get in or around the lake)
    • Form and function (how does your organism’s form (body structure) relates to function)
    • Additional interesting fact(s) about your organism (such as: special adaptations that help your organism to survive)
  • Proper citation of resources.
